THE ARTIST & THE WORK

I paint as an exploration of movement and emotion.

A way to expand my potential as a human being realising the endless possibilities within me.
My abstract works are born from intuition rather than certainty, allowing fluidity and spontaneity to guide every layer, gesture and mark making. Each painting is a conversation between curiosity and instinct, inviting the unexpected to become part of the creative process.

For me, art is a way of experiencing life with openness and excitement. It is a practice of looking inward while remaining deeply connected to the energy that surround us.
Every piece reflects a journey of self-discovery and awareness - a visual expression of moments and perceptions that cannot always be described with words but can be deeply felt.

I believe abstract art has the power to awaken something unique in every viewer. There is no single interpretation, only an invitation to explore, imagine and connect with your own emotions and life experience. I want my paintings to create a sense of freedom, inspiring curiosity, sparking excitement and a crave for the unknown.

My hope is that each canvas becomes more than a pretty object on a wall. I want it to be a source of uplifting energy, a pause that encourages reflection and a daily reminder to embrace the limitless potential inside each and everyone of us.

INSPIRATION

Comes from a intersection of nature, movement, intuition, memory, and abstract pattern-making.

Nature as an Inner Experience   I'm not interested in painting nature as it looks; rather, I paint how nature feels. Nature serves as a visual language for life, transformation, and interconnectedness.

Curiosity and Exploration    Many of my compositions feel like maps of discovery. The layered marks, repeated patterns, and overlapping shapes are an exploration without a predetermined destination, a curiosity about what emerges during the process and a willingness to let intuition guide decisions.
In a way, the work is less "planned" and more "revealed."

Movement and Energy    Nothing feels static. Even the more structured geometric compositions contain rhythm and flow through repetition, vertical movement, contrasting shapes and gestural marks.
The paintings feel alive, almost like visual recordings of energy moving through space.

The Dialogue between Order and Freedom     I love to play with the tension between structure and spontaneity.

The relationship between control and surrender fascinates me.

Inner Landscapes    When it comes to painting, rather than depicting a place, I prefer to depict a state of being.

Rita was born in Lisbon, Portugal (1983), where she is based at the moment. She worked as graphic designer for many years and in 2024 the only thing that she could think of was to revisit her earliest big passion for painting.

Changing the computer for the canvas was a long overdue decision and so it began the path to abstract art.

The style that was more suited to express the multiple dimensions of her inner world.
